We don’t often give ourselves permission to put our own needs first. We should though. How can we possibly expect to be the best version of ourselves if we are neglecting to take care of our own needs? How can we possibly expect to be able to support others to the best of our ability if we have not invested time and energy in making sure we ourselves are cared for, rested, nurtured? It is necessary to be selfish once in a while. It is necessary to put ourselves first occasionally so that we can do a better job of helping others. How can we expect to be happy, to be able to overcome barriers, to be able to cope with change, to be able to be present in our own lives and those of our friends and families, if we do not prioritise our own happiness? We can’t. So be selfish. Take care of YOU.
