It's been quite a while since I've done a round up of favourites and I've discovered some awesome new things in June so it seemed like the ideal time. Below are some things I've been loving over the last month. 1. Books of Your Life podcast I love a good podcast when I'm out on [...]

A Post Of Witchcraft And Wizardry

January 11, 2019 Jen Eden3 Comments

In case you didn't already know I am a bit of a Harry Potter fan. So when I saw this Harry Potter tag on Writing The Blues Away I couldn't resist doing it too! 1. What house are you in?  According to every sorting test/quiz/whatever I have ever taken, I am a Gryffindor. This constantly [...]

A bit of fun for today! I spotted this tag over at Sprinkle and Dreams, and the lovely Lily was kind enough to invite me to join in. Being a lover of all things Harry Potter I, obviously, accepted! https://giphy.com/embed/FaLhiZQHrBIYwvia GIPHY When you're done here, you should all go and follow this lovely literary blog. [...]

Raindrops On Roses

May 7, 2017 Jen EdenLeave a comment

Hello lovelies. It's been a hell of a few weeks. It's been busy, tiring, stressful, emotional and I've had this post in the back of my head for probably a month now without doing anything with it. As it happens, a post focusing on a few of my favourite things is just what I need [...]

National Poetry Day – Sharing a favourite

October 6, 2016 Jen EdenLeave a comment

A rather late post but I've still made it (just) inside National Poetry Day. I couldn't let today pass without sharing my favourite poem: Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll. This is my favourite for a number of reasons. It gets the top spot partly because I just love the nonsense and the rhythm and the language [...]

Something Bookish This Way Comes…

September 29, 2016September 29, 2016 Jen EdenLeave a comment

There's something exciting coming in the world of book subscription boxes... something that takes the magic of travelling by book one step further, by bringing a little bit of those bookish places straight to your favourite reading spot. Fernweh Fiction is a brand new subscription box from @thetravellingreader. Inspired by trips around England, and using the [...]

Random Meme

June 13, 2015June 9, 2015 Jen EdenLeave a comment

Random meme swiped from Get It All Down Do you need to write down things to remember them? Generally, yes. Do you keep a diary/journal? Of sorts. I have a day to day diary for appointments and stuff which gets filled up with doodles, quotes and random musings, as well as a visual journal which I [...]

Beating the January Blues

January 6, 2015January 6, 2015 Jen EdenLeave a comment

We've already established that January is hard. Post-festive blues set in along with the realisation that you have eaten too much and now some of your clothes just don't quite fit. It's back to work, early morning alarms and instead of reading all the books, playing the games or watching the films you got for [...]

Welcome to Thrive In Chaos

A place for books, writing, mental health advocacy and general musings.

Come say hi.

Picked up The Secret History from my local library today. This is one of those books that I’ve been *aware* of for years but have just never got around to reading. I’m excited to see what Donna Tartt has to offer! 🤩
Over the last few years, through the challenges of chronic pain and the unknowns of infertility, I have turned to @morganharpernichols work again and again for comfort, for hope, for inspiration. Both her words and her art have been a source of quiet joy and reassurance through all the ups and downs. Now, as we embark on our long-awaiting adventure into parenthood, her work continues to be exactly what my soul needs. I am so, so glad that I found my way to the work of this once creator all those years ago. Thank you, Morgan. ❤️🧡💛💚💙
Good morning @gladstoneslibrary - thank you for another warm welcome. 🥰
Had one of those pregnancy insomnia nights with a 3:30 wake up and a brain that would simply NOT allow me to go back to sleep. After a few hours of fruitless dream chasing, I decided to get up, grab an early decaf coffee and delve into a bit of learning. No, I’m not mad, I was just in one of those frames of mind where my brain needed something to focus on - and Radical Candor is just the ticket. This book was recommended to me by my phenomenal mentor @melaniebryanobedl during the Help To Grow Management course I recently completed. Even in just the few pages of forward and intro, there are so many words of wisdom and points of reflection that have jumped out at me. Highlighter in hand and notebook by my side, I’m hungry to see what else this book will offer me. I’ve barely broken into the first chapter but already I’ve got questions that I know I need to step back and consider for my own professional practice and at least one ‘aha’ moment that has shifted the way I view myself as a manager and a leader. I know my work is going to be changing (along with just about everything else!) in this next season of my life. It’s a little daunting but I’m excited for it and, as always, I feel a little better going into it armed with a great book. 🤩🤓📚💪 Thanks for the recommendation, Mel!
I had completely forgotten that my talented friend @mookydoodle had created these gorgeous bookmarks featuring snippets of my poetry on them until I rediscovered them whilst unpacking the last of our boxes of books! It’s always so humbling when other creators want to collaborate or draw on my work so this was a delightful reminder of just how far Thrive has gone in the world. It’s still small but it went so much further than I ever imagined. Thank you again George for creating these. ❤️
Our household has been struck down by a nasty fever-y virus that has well and truly knocked us off our feet. 😩🤧🤒 After being able to do nothing but sleep yesterday, today I’ve regained enough faculties to read so I’m snuggling up with The Atlas Six, which I’ve been looking forward to reading for ages. Hoping that ancient libraries and magic will be the cure! 🤞
It’s one of my favourite things to discover a book that you just can’t put down. This is one of those. I am absolutely DEVOURING Lessons In Chemistry and loving every second of it. Elizabeth Zott is an incomparable protagonist, Six Thirty has my heart and this story is one of the most compelling I’ve picked up in a while. If you’ve not read it, add it to the top of your TBR right now!
“Today I wake and the sky is a hollow blue. Today I am not hurting. The quiet in my body is gentle and expansive; it brings me to tears.”
Apparently our little one is now able to hear and start recognising sounds from inside bump! We want them to get to know our voices so we’ve decided to start reading to them. Of course, Winnie-The-Pooh is a must so that’s where we’re starting. 🥰 I can’t wait to share a lifetime of stories with this little miracle. ❤️
