I have been saving @cosyreads’ Midnight in Everwood for my winter reading so, as the first snow of the season falls outside, today seems the perfect time to pick up this reimagining of The Nutcracker. The candles are lit, choral Christmas music is playing quietly on the background and I’m ready for the magic.❄️🩰🎄

Nothing like a large dose of good, chocolately magic and some witchy herb lore on a bad pain day. Very excited to dip into this gorgeous edition from @kewgardens books exploring plants in folklore, magic and traditional medicine. Perfect research companion for my current writing project! 🧙‍♀️ 🌱

I had the BEST birthday this week. I have been beyond spoiled with all manner of good things as well as receiving generous donations to my birthday fundraiser for the Women’s Environmental Network. 🥰 I’m feeling incredibly loved and incredibly lucky and I have a blissful day off work with my beloved to look forward to. Turns out, it’s not so bad this getting older malarkey. 😉

I flipping LOVE this series. The Scholomance is the deadly magical school I never knew I needed and The Last Graduate took this incredible story in a direction I did not expect but am 100% here for. I thought it was a duology but it looks like there will be a book three which I’m glad about because THAT ENDING?!?! 😱 I don’t even know what else to say because my brain is in a post-ending haze. Just…read this book.

Sometimes as a writer - if you you are lucky, or open, or…something - a story will appear and grab you by the throat so determinedly that you have no choice but to get on and write it. This one leapt on me from nowhere. Kicking and screaming and insisting it be written. It was neither of the projects I intended to work on during our writerly retreat this weekend. But when story calls, you answer. And never has a plot presented its to me so fully formed. Can’t wait to work with this big magic.

Hi friends, it’s been a while. This bookworm has been ridiculously busy the last few weeks and I’m excited to be taking a literary break this weekend to unwind. Still got a busy day today and a busy morning tomorrow before I can switch off but I’m getting in the mood with a good book on my lunch break. I’ve been wanting to read The Heavens for a while and someone has popped a copy on our staff book swap shelves so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to make a start.

Hello weekend. I’m glad to see you. It’s been a hell of a week. Can I rest with you a while? With books and blankets and furry friends? I won’t trouble you for much. Just a little quiet.
